2004/2005 Hurricane Seasons

2004-2008

Caring Hearts has had a Disaster Relief program since 2004 when we responded to 4 of the Florida Hurricanes. It was that same year that our Meal-in-a-bag Program began. For those of you who do not know what our Meal-in-a-bag is, it is a bag distributed within hours of the storms to those who cannot get out to other help. These are people who were in the hardest hit areas. The MIAB consists of: a jar of Jelly, a jar of Peanut butter, a loaf of bread, 2 bottles of water, plastic ware and napkins, hand sanitizer, a Bible, Tract and our “Little Yellow Guy”. The food will sustain them until the trucks can get in there with other food supplies, the Bible gives them the hope they are searching for and the LYG gives them that ray of sunshine they need in what is a very dark time in their life. During the 2004 storms, over 60,000 items were distributed to those in need. These supplies were taken door to door, so the emergency need could be met.. The volunteers traveled through standing water, downed power lines, broken bridges and closed roadways along with the National Guard, to get aid to those who needed it most.

In 2005, the Nation experienced an event we all pray we will never see again, Hurricane Katrina. That was a great endeavor. With over 125 volunteers and our truckers working around the clock, we were able to distribute over 200,000 items. That trip took us to the Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian area where we worked for almost 4 months helping to meet the people’s needs.

2007 was the year of the Southeast Georgia, Northeast Florida fires. Within 24 hours of the call coming in for hygiene relief supplies, we were able to sort, label package and deliver 1000 hygiene bags for the firemen who came from all over the USA to help fight the fires. Our bags were distributed to the men as they came off the field for a shower, some food and a well deserved rest.

Our organization has always been, people helping people. Through this program, CHI has been able to reach out, meet the needs and encourage thousands for the Lord.

We thank everyone who gave of their time to help those who were truly hurting and in need. We thank everyone who donated and we are grateful to all those who kept us lifted in prayer.

As the new season of 2008 has already begun with many tornadoes, we are in the process of preparing for whatever lies ahead.

If you are interested in being part of the team or you have items you would like to donate please contact us and someone will be in touch with you.

We have spent many hours out in the field working with people who did not prepare for the storms. Don’t be caught like they were, please put your things in order. After experiencing many storms, we have put together what we have found to be the best list of needed items and why. If you would like a copy, send us an email and someone from the DR team will send it too you.
